Why? Kos you can! Get rid of phobias.

Get rid of your phobias
Asclepion – Hippocrates’ hospital on Kos Island

Get rid of phobias… and painlessly too.

We’ve recently returned from a fabulous holiday in the sun with friends.

I’ve been to various holiday destinations in Greece before, but never Kos. Possibly the very best thing about it was that we could get about safely on hired bicycles, along the cycle paths.

And that’s what we did for 10 days – cycled everywhere. We explored quite a bit of the island, including Asclepion, a healing temple – in fact, where the father of medicine, Hippocrates did his thing.

A hospital then…

And the beginnings of modern medicine.

It was early days though! If you were there you’d need to worship Asclepius, the god of medicine. And it wasn’t unusual to share your first night in a dormitory with snakes slithering about on the floor!

You’d report the content of your dreams to the priest the next day, informing the cure he prescribed.

Sleep? I’m sorry? Did you say, ‘sleep’?

What? With snakes all over the place?

I think not!

Well, not for a lot of folk anyway. Personally, I’m not a huge fan but I don’t mind snakes. In fact, when I was eight, someone gave me a slow worm. It looked like a snake though we know it to be a legless lizard.

I kept it in a cardboard box and called it Vienna (because that’s what was written on the box. Biscuits, I suppose.)

I didn’t find it to be the most exciting pet, and I guess it wasn’t thrilled with me much either! After a couple of days it buggered off!

Whatever outcome of the General Election, I trust all of us to support the continuation of our NHS, and not take it for granted. We’ve come a long way since Asclepion’s heyday.

I’d also like to see someone grab the behemoth that the NHS has become by the shoulders, and give it a good shake. There’s far too much money wasted on at best, clunky, and at worst, poor admin.

And if you do have a phobia, of snakes or anything else, that’s making your life a misery, for goodness sake come and get it sorted out.

Asclepion Lego or is that dominoes?

You don’t have to put up with it. You can change it in one session. And it’s not like that dreadful programme on TV, The Panic Room, relying on sensitisation to the problem – that’s to say increasing exposure to the thing you’re frightened of. That’s awful, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

Wouldn’t you rather experience something like this previous client?

“I don’t know what you did and I’m not sure when you did it, but look at me now! The phobia’s gone. I now have just a healthy respect for the water, instead of a massive fear, and can enjoy going out on the boat with all my friends.”

Give me a shout.
